Science Café Raleigh
Science Café is a monthly event where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can participate in topical discussions with leaders in the fields of science and technology. Hosted by local Sigma Xi chapters and the Museum, these monthly talks are located in coffee shops, bars and restaurants around Raleigh and promote discussion of science in an informal community setting.

Science Cafe: Dog Genome: Teaching Scientists New Tricks

Science Talk - Using the 'One Medicine' concept—the idea that human and animal health relies on a common pool of medical and scientific knowledge and is supported by overlapping technologies and discoveries; research is revealing that the dog genome may hold the keys to unlocking some of nature’s most intriguing puzzles about human cancer.

Science Talk - Join Geology Curator Dr. Chris Tacker for a discussion of recent and historical volcanic events and old North Carolina volcanoes. Learn about the new Mineral Spectroscopy Laboratory and how Museum research is helping understand and ameliorate large scale volcanic eruptions.

Science Talk - The Charles Darwin Lecture Series will conclude on Tuesday, November 24th— the 150th anniversary of Darwin’s landmark publication of "The Origin of Species"— as local paleontologist, Paul Brinkman, will present "Charles Darwin's Beagle Voyage and the Origin of 'The Origin.'"
